Habitually Chic Redecorates: Making Progress

It's been a whirlwind week of painting and redecorating at Casa Chic and serious progress has been achieved. I'm so happy with the wall color, Benjamin Moore Cedar Key (OC-16) and White Dove (OC-17) trim. It better reflects my style now and coincidentally my closet. I repainted the television cabinet in Midnight Dream (2129-10) which pops off the tan walls now. I like how the black television disappears in it so I am debating whether to put the doors back on. I may look for new knobs though.

I also moved my computer to the other side of the room in order to have space for a new bookcase (Ikea Billy $59.99. Gotta love it!). I own a million books and needed more organized storage space. I also now have room for magazines and storage boxes for my tear sheets and work projects. Of course, after I styled the whole thing two new books from Rizzoli arrived today! More about those later. I still have more to do including hanging all my artwork and priming and painting all the trim in the bedroom. But now I think I might take a nap! Decorating is exhausting!

Este nuevo concepto de cocina giratoria tiene aprox. 1.69 metros de diámetro y 2.38 m de alto; esta diseñado por la empresa Compact Concepts, es muy práctico y puede girarse muy cómodamente, además tienen puertas para poder unir o juntar cuando veamos conveniente; asimismo dentro de ello trae todo lo necesario para ser una cocina sencilla y práctica que cumple con todas las funciones. Está diseñada especialmente para el poco espacio que tenemos en nuestra casa o departamento. En solo unos cuantos metros podemos equipar nuestra cocina con todo lo indispensable y trasladarlo a cualquier espacio o habitación que nos guste. What's your sign?

I couldn't post anything last night because my computer was being a bit temperamental which actually wasn't surprising since it was the first day of the current Mercury retrograde cycle. I think a lot of people now know that when Mercury is retrograde, it not only affects communications but computer and technical equipment. So I thought this might be good time to discuss astrology and the stars. I recently had the pleasure of having my personalized charts read my astrologist Aurora Tower.

When I mentioned that I was meeting with an astrologer, reaction was mixed. Some people confessed that they too see someone, like the person who has their chart done every year on their birthday by the same astrologer that Donna Karan sees and others looked at me like I had said I was consulting Dionne Warwick and Psychic Friends Network! On friend announced that only single people read their horoscopes but there is a huge difference between reading your horoscope in the newspaper and having your personalized chart read and there was no better person to consult than Aurora who is young and passionate about astrology. "My goal is really to get more people interested in and educated and excited about it, that it is something that should be fun and people should be less "mystified" by it" she said. She also grew up in Manhattan and now lives part of the year on St. John where she is creating an eco-luxury home that will hopefully be for rent soon! She also has a great blog!

It seems like a lot of creative people are more open to astrology as are people in the East. We had an interesting talk about how the Olympics opening ceremony were planned for an auspicious date and time and that many companies use astrology to conduct business dealings on the best possible days. All in all I loved the charts that Aurora prepared and explained to me. I always wondered why I didn't always feel like an Aries and now I know why! While she didn't give me the exact date I am going to meet my soul mate, she did give me good news about work and traveling and that's good enough for me! Tela de patch y lienzo , letras estampadas con pintura para tejido, piculina ( encontrada en una mercería en Olot ) puntilla beige ( de una mercería de Tudela ) .

Hice a medida la funda interior con relleno que se deja entrever a través de la parte superior que queda abierta y sujeta por unas tiras anudadas.



Dentro de poco os enseñaré con qué hace juego esa preciosa tela de flores.

DORMITORIOS Y AMBIENTES INFANTILES - CUARTOS PARA BEBES

Estos modelos de dormitorio y ambientes infantiles es exclusivo cuando empiezan a sumarse la familia, es por eso que esta diseñado para que puedan ser compartidos entre una bebé y la hermanita menor. Aquí como se puede apreciar no se usa colores exclusivos para bebes ni mucho menos colores que sean solo para niñas. Es importante el dormitorio o cuarto para bebes y para ello se debe tener en cuenta que los nenes crecen muy rápido, entonces es muy buena idea tratar de evitar usar colores exclusivos de bebé, como los rosas o celestes. Es mejor elegir colores que sean fáciles de redecorar a medida que el pequeño vaya creciendo. Asimismo se debe evitar el uso de artículos y colores que están de moda, ya que éstos rápidamente dejarán de serlo. Aquí vemos una pared muy colorida, muy bonita para un bebé, pero este dormitorio será fácil de readaptar al crecimiento del niño.

Asimismo la decoración de los dormitorios o cuartos para bebés podrían estar inspirado en un libro de cuentos o un dibujo animado para niños. Es una buena idea a la hora de pensar en la decoración de la habitación  inspirarse en algo que nos ayude. LLegaron desde la Bretaña

Hace alguna semana que uno de mis hermanos volvió de vacaciones en Francia. Conociéndome , sabía que iba a pedirle alguna cosa, casi siempre revistas porque son más fáciles de conseguir en algún quiosco. El caso es que desde que salió anunciada " Le style country, un art de vivre " de la revista Magic Patch, me quedé prendada de la portada y de lo que se adivinaba en su interior....... y ahora era la ocasión..........Pero no hubo suerte. Por más que preguntó la revistita no había salido o no la habían recibido.
Pero tan majo es mi hermano , que vino cargado con estas otras dos, " Creation Patchwork " con el tema de las flores y " Magic Patch " con el verano en su interior.






La primera no la conocía. Vienen imágenes de cada paso , aunque los modelos no me atraen demasiado. Viene un cojín bordado que está mono.
La otra me parece de más calidad, más innovadora y con artículos interesantes. Me pareció espectacular la colcha en blanco con trabajo de trapunto .



También trae una preciosa colcha en patchwork tradicional , en rombos y con tela del estilo de Mary Rose.



Está bien tener de vez en cuando una revista actual y ver " por donde van los tiros " . Hay quien se distrae con revistas del corazón , yo lo hago mirando las revistas de labores.

Round Robin

As you may remember, we originally wanted to buy a round dining table for the Bachelor Pad but decided to keep the exisiting dining table to save money. That still doesn't mean that I don't notice every time I see a fabulous round or oblong table. I especially love modern tables paired with antique or vintage chairs and also the reverse of antique tables with modern chairs. It looks so interesting, modern and personal. Enjoy!

Chic Shopping: 145 Antiques

The most exciting thing about working near Union Square are all the fabulous shops and showrooms in the area! Last week, I stopped into 145 Antiques on 20th Street and was blown away by their lovely furniture and beautiful Italian lamps which they rewire in the backroom. If you stop by, I guarantee you'll find something for yourself or a client! Just make sure you close the door behind you on your way in so you don't let the dogs out!

Houses in My Heart

I had no idea that Carleton Varney had a new book about to be published entitled, Houses of My Heart: Carelton Varney, an International Decorator's Colorful Journey! Carleton seems like a pretty colorful character so I can only imagine the stories he has to tell!

Carleton's son, Nicholas Varney, a fabulous jewelry designer, also has a new collection of babbles inspired by fabrics like damask and tweed that are beyond chic, as are the prices. Paint by Numbers

It's a terrible photo but Benjamin Moore Cedar Key (OC- 16) is wonderful! I'm so happy I decided to repaint my apartment! Of course, I'd be happier if it was completely finished but I still have half of the living room to complete. I also painted the front door in Benjamin Moore Midnight (2121-20). I thought black would be too harsh so I wanted a very dark blue to compliment the other colors in the room and apartment. A good rule of thumb is to choose a color on the paint chip that you have and work either lighter or darker. The other colors on the Midnight chip in the fan deck match the other colors in my apartment which is why I chose it. If I had choose one of the dark blue colors from the chip with more lavender or green tones, I don't think it would have worked so well. Now, I'm off to get a manicure. I don't mind getting my hands dirty but I do mind ruining my nails!

Log Cabin en marcha

Después de haber conseguido terminar la colcha Rojos, cintas y puntillas , me animé a continuar con la idea de Eileen y hacer otro quilt con telas que ya tenía intentando no tener que comprar ninguna.
Asi que elegí los tonos que más cantidad tenía y me dispuse a empezar a cortar las tiras para coserlas sobre los bloques que tenía comprados hace mucho . Es de esas cosas que se van quedando ahí y una no sabe porqué no intenta.
El patrón viene ya listo para recortar bloques y ponerse a coser sobre ellos haciendo el dibujo de log cabin.

Qué pena que la foto haya salido tan oscura. Menos mal que se aprecian mejor los estampados en la siguiente.






21 bloques de log cabin tengo que hacer y estos son los cuatro primeros.



Media hora tardo en hacer cada uno. Por eso intentaré coserlos un día concreto a la semana y dejar terminados por lo menos dos de ellos.
