Harvest Home de Moda

¡ Me he enamorado ! Acabo de recibir las muestras de la nueva colección de Moda " Harvest Home " diseñadas por Blackbird Desings y solo ser decir " me encantan, me encantan , me encantan ....." Una vez más Blackbird ha dado en el clavo. Los tonos son una preciosidad y los estampados pueden aplicarse a muchas cosas , no sólo para hacer patch ,sino para forrar alguna caja, o cuaderno , archivador, utilizar de fondo en un trabajo, hacer un bolso.... ¡ es que les veo tantas posibilidades ! Desde las que tienen grandes estampados , pasando por las de florecitas y terminando por las que vienen con pág. de diccionario escritas. Cuatro colores son los elegidos : azul, verde , marrón y granate. Creo que mis preferidas son las azules aunque hay por ahí alguna en marrón que también me gusta mucho.

El paquetito trae las 43 telitas de 5"x 5" de la colección. Como la idea es montarlas todas juntas tal como vienen cortadas, encargué alguna más para utilizarla en los bordes y hacer una pequeña colcha. Quizá haga algún acolchado en el centro de cada recuadro. Son tan bonitas que se merecen que queden bien lucidas. El tacto también es muy agradable, tienen una suavidad .... como una pequeña película que acentúa más los tonos .

He intentado que se vea el mayor número de muestras en la foto ,pero creo que ha debido quedar alguna por ahí escondida.

Estas en concreto las compré en Shabby Fabrics , aprovechando uno de esos descuentos que sacan de vez en cuando.

Por cierto que si no fuera por lo de la crisis , ya me había apuntado yo al Mistery BOM que hace Fat Quarter durante un año y que empieza justamente este mes ( por si alguna cae en la tentación ¡ que me lo cuente ! )

I'm usually really bad at posting when I'm tagged but since Vicki of the blog French Essence and My French Life was nice enough to include me in her tags, I thought I should make time to participate.

The rules are that I have to list "six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself." So here goes!

1. I am obsessed with buying art on ebay as you can see from my living room wall above. I collect vintage watercolors which I often end up framing in black vintage frames but my new passion is for 1960's abstract art!

2. I don't drink coffee but I do have an unhealthy addiction to diet coke. I don't smoke or do drugs so I figure if this is my worst problem, I'm not doing so bad.

3. I spend way too much time at Bergdorf Goodman!

4. My drycleaner told me that I'm his favorite customer! I think it's because I spend so much money getting my clothes from Bergdorf's cleaned and tailored there!

5. Someone in an elevator at the D&D yesterday recognized me from my blog! I was so taken aback that I totally forgot to ask her where she worked or her name! So whoever you were, please email me so we can chat more! (Also, makes me kind of glad I'm one of those people who never leaves the house without clean hair and some lipstick! Never know who you might run into!)

Una de las piezas muy importantes en un dormitorio es la colcha o cubrecama. Pues ayuda mucho a armonizar el ambiente, habitación y/o dormitorio y complementa con cada accesorio que se usa dentro de la habitación o dormitorio. Aquí les presento algunas propuestas de cubrecamas, colchas y se pueden adecuar según nuestro agrado y estilo; los colores son muy combinables y tienen opciones de tonos pasteles. One of the things I love about The Book of Decorating from Domino is that there is a beautiful watercolor rendering of an interior on the title page to each chapter. I collect vintage watercolors and am always in awe of anyone who has mastered the techniques, especially John Gibson. John creates renderings for many top designers and architects so that they can show their clients what their space will look like when it's finished. Most non-creative types have a hard time visualizing which is why they hired a designer in the first place!

He will also create watercolors of finished interiors which he said is much easier. I have been thinking about commissioning him to paint a view of the bachelor pad since it's a rental and at some point will cease to exist. It would be nice to have a lasting memory that is much more special than just a photograph. Check out John's website for more beautiful watercolors!

Gray/Grey Dining Rooms

I have a new obsession with gray dining rooms, I love the elegant look - Gray is such a wonderful color. If done correctly it can be warm and elegant. Very often I see cream woodwork and one or two simple black accents; both help make the color pop. Here are a few of my favorites:

Jane Showers & Associates

This dining room was designed by one of my favorite designers, Jane Showers and Associates. I love the how the ebony table anchors the space while all the other pieces in the room are light and airy. The huge mirror, which reflects the buffet across the room adds a layer of drama. The chandelier looks like it could be from Julie Neill Designs and the ceiling has a pearlized look. Lovely!

This gray dining room is actually an illusion. It has black and white printed walls which gives an overall feeling of gray. Very chic. The striped chairs and traditional style table go beautifully with the more traditional style of the room. The art work adds the black accents. Hard to tell exactly, but perhaps antique architectural prints, framed in ebony. A crystal chandelier adds sparkle.

Here is a country inn - this gray reads a bit more blue to me. The cherry wood is good compliment. I also find the pinkish-creamy ceiling pretty but I do not like chandelier. It seems too informal and too small for the space.

This room really speaks to me. Here is a wonderful example of gray in a more austere room. The windows open to a spectacular view. Often the wrong color can compete with view. This gray is a perfect compliment to the outdoors - it actually enhances the view. The lighting adds the perfect accent of black with out overpowering the space. Add in the texture of the sisal rug, the simple lines of the furniture, the soft color palette of the upholstery, and viola! Perfect!

I received my advance copy of The Book of Decorating from Domino yesterday and I definitely think everyone will love it! There are tons of great interiors from the magazine all in one place now and many new fabulous designs too. The Decorator's Handbook in the back is the perfect reference guide for the average homeowner who wants to learn how to do it themselves but also a nice refresher for the professional.

Operación : un hogar más agradable

Finalmente después seguir los pasos que indiqué en el artículo anterior, monté los tiradores orginales pintados y envejecidos, así como el embellecedor de la puerta. Como no tenía la llave , compré una y la pinté con la misma pintura. Luego le puse un adorno que me enviaron hace tiempo desde Francia con un toile de Jouy que me encanta con este tipo de mueble.

Y finalmente éste es el resultado que estabais esperando ver.......

Forré el interior de los cajones con papel beige y diminutos puntitos blancos. Está pegado con cola blanca de carpintero.

En el interior utilicé una preciosa tela de patch cortada a medida y también pegada con cola de carpintero aplicada a la madera.

En la encimera he colocado el tapete que compré en Perpignan este verano y sobre él unas servilletas con un ribete calado , hechas de hilo y que traje de Verdecora.

El toque final lo dan esos pequeños detalles ... escoger .... probar ..... cosas que he hecho , fotos..... recuerdos.....y dar ese toque shabby chic que me encanta.

Nuevamente incluí hiedra natural junto con unas románticas rosas ... y un pajarito que compré en una preciosa tienda en Madrid, una tarde en la que disfrutamos las amigas ( a las que hecho de menos ) tomando una deliciosa tarta casera " al estilo inglés " acompañada con un café ...¿ alguien se acuerda ?.... Y recuerdo que " alguien " me dijo: " Ay, ¡ qué pájaro más feo , me da un poco de yuyu ".. o algo así. Ahora visto en este ambiente no se ve tan feo ¿ no ? Al menos a mí me parece que se ha metido volando en mi casa y va a cantarme una canción.

Como en las fotos se aprecia, os contaré que también he añadido estos visillos que " transformé en estores " . Son de esos " al estilo antiguo " . He tenido mucho tiempo esta cristalera sin cortinas y creo que por mi cabeza ya han pasado todos los modelos y presupuestos posibles, incluyendo la posibilidad de coserlos yo misma. Al final, lo que más " apañao " me ha quedado , ha sido esta idea. Los compré en una tienda que hace esquina casi al lado de la plaza de Pontejos . Tiene mantelerías , sábanas y otras cosas bordadas a mano, como estos visillos.
La ventaja es que dejan pasar la luz , además de dar mucha claridad con color blanco.

Al principio parecía todo un poco " hospital " entonces se me ocurrió sujetarlos para subirlos un poco, pero en vez de hacer unas tiras de tela , elegí una puntilla de la que tenía muchos metros. ¡ Gasté todo ! Hice una lazada y ahora se respira el ambiente romántico en esta parte de la casa.

Os dejo finalmente una visión del conjunto en general de la que me siento muy, muy orgullosa porque ha ido creciendo poco a poco con mucho cariño y disfrutando en cada momento, hasta en las cosas más simples.

El próximo miércoles más avances del cambio sustancial que está teniendo este lugar de mi hogar.

It was 46 degrees this morning and it got me thinking about all the great indoor activities available in New York and museums are at the top! One of the new exhibits that I am excited to see is Van Gogh and the Colors of the Night at The Museum of Modern Art. It looks fabulous!
