The Find

If you can't make it to New York to shop at Housing Works, now Housing Works can come to you in the form of their new book, The Find: The Housing Works Book of Decorating with Thrift Shop Treasures, Flea Market Objects, and Vintage Details. The book is chock full of great photos, wonderful stories and advice from an array of designers. My friend David Jimenez is featured in his very own chapter devoted to how he filled his Kansas City home with a mix of new pieces, antiques and thrift store find. David was in town for the party this week as was interior designer and Turquoise blog writer Vanessa De Vargas who is not only talented but ridiculously beautiful in person. I'm really picky about my design books and I can honestly say that this one is really well done and I highly recommend it. Just be warned that after looking through it, you are going to want to hit the nearest thrift shop or flea market. I know I did and am currently unpacking my fabulous finds! Happy reading and shopping!

Palm Springs Paradise

I know I should be posting about Christmas but I couldn't help but post the photos of my friend David Jimenez's Palm Springs mid-century paradise. He keeps suggesting that I come out for a little vacation and after seeing the photos, I just make have to book a flight. I love the pops of color and interesting details. David is great at layering and creating atmosphere and as I know first hand, a wonderful host and great shopping partner. Enjoy the photos. I'm off to check the airline schedules!

Downtown with David

This past Saturday was a beautiful day in more ways than just the weather. I had the pleasure of spending it with my favorite Kansas City resident, David Jimenez! David actually grew up in New York and if Ron Marvin and I have our way, we're going to figure out a way for him to come back or at least visit more often! We had a fabulous day that started out with brunch at Freemans with Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts...ok, they were actually at their own table but it was still a fun celebrity sighting. The place is always packed but the food is worth the wait!

Then we had to stop into Freemans Sporting Club where David didn't much convincing to buy the chic bag above. It is made exclusively for the shop out of fabric they make hunting clothes from and has a lock they use on bank money bags but the best part is the bright orange lining!

Plaid shirts just in time for the winter chill!

Freemans, the store, carries a beautiful array of new and vintage items and if you need a shave or a haircut, there is a barbershop in the back room!

I also made David pop into Club Monaco which he doesn't have in Kansas City. Club Monaco carries a great selection of men's and women's clothing that is fashion forward without being too trendy.

David picked up a great pair of black and white plaid pants for the holidays and I went back on Sunday and picked up the grey flannel dress that I had admired!
Unfortunately, George and Jon of Flair were in Italy this weekend, rough life! But we still stopped in to check out their new selections. The lamp in the window above is completely crazy but for some reason, I totally love it!

The art is always my favorite thing in Flair and I might have to get them to take me on the next buying trip!

I swear I did take a photo with David but it came out a little blurry that's why he's the model in every shot! Other stops that were not documented included John Derian (fab as always!), the New Museum to see the Elzabeth Peyton exhibition (beyond gorgeous in person!), Tory Burch (great for inspiration), Ciao Bella for gelato (yummy!), Double RL for more vintage (saw photog Bruce Weber), Muji for paper (perfect for to do lists) and finally to The Mercer (talk about good people watching!) for some much needed drinks. I had so much fun showing David all my favorite haunts. I hope you visit some of them too the next time you are downtown!

Dining by Design

I am always inspired by non-professional interior designer David Jimenez so it was funny for him to tell me he was inspired by a photo that he saw on my blog. A photo of Tinsley Mortimer no less! David loved the photo and decided to use orange, turquoise and chocolate brown as the colors for his Dining by Design table for the fundraiser for DIFFA Kansas City.

Here is Tinsley in all her glory in her new Upper East Side New York home.

David's table was really a room with "richly colored walls, eclectic artwork and lush flowers that gave the space a luxe yet bohemian vibe that made it a magical evening." Makes me wish I lives in Kansas City!

The whole table looked like it glowed!

What I didn't know is that Dining by Design was founded in Kansas City over fifteen years ago and has become the signature event for DIFFA chapters nationwide. I guess New York isn't the center of the universe after all!

My favorite part of the room is all the amazing art! I might have to see if any of it is for sale somewhere!

Orange, brown and blue are some of my favorite colors and they couldn't look more perfect than they do here!

David (second from the left) and all his chic friends at the Dining by Design event last weekend. Could they be any more good looking? (Note to self: get teeth whitened before visiting Kansas City next month!) David has such a great eye and fabulous design sense that I'm blown away by all that he does! And he's a sweetheart to boot! Kansas City sure is one lucky town!
