Chic at Work

Sometimes I miss working in an office.  I used to think up more creative outfits because I didn't want to bore my co-workers by wearing the same thing each week.  Since the same people don't see me everyday now, I feel like my outfits have gotten a little boring.  One of my New Year's resolutions is to restyle my wardrobe and take more risks.  That's why I like Vogue's new online feature, Five Days, Five Looks.  Who better to learn from than those who work at the chicest magazine.  Senior Accessories Editor, Filipa Fino, is up this week and I love her classic style with pops of colorful accessories.  She's definitely my new style idol. I will definitely be emulating her look after we dig out from the blizzard.  Until then, I hope no one sees what I'm wearing!  Happy New Year!

Chic at Work: Diana Vreeland

I couldn't just post Diana Vreeland's home when her office was just as chic.  She began her magazine career at Harper's Bazaar when Carmel Snow hired her because she was impressed with her style.  She became known for her "Why don't you..." columns and even hired Ali MacGraw.  After she was fired, she was went on to be the editor in chief of Vogue in 1963.  She stayed with the magazine until 1971 after which she joined the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These photos are from her Vogue office about 1968 and the inspiration board and leopard carpet attest to her innate sense of style.  She famously said once that "too much good taste can be boring" but it's clear that she had amazing taste and was never boring!

Carolina Herrera: Chic at Work

One of my Spanish readers who writes Me Gusta La Moda was kind enough to forward me this photo of Carolina Herrera looking very chic at a fitting in her studio.  The model is Eugenia Silva who was to wear the dress to the Costume Institute Gala.  The man kneeling on the floor is Carolina Herrera creative director HervĂ© Pierre.  Now all we need is a photo of her desk!

Chic at Work

There are a lot of important issues going on in the world but the press is jumping all over the fact that President Obama had the Oval Office redecorated recently.  Margaret Russell, the new editor in chief of Architectural Digest, even made an appearance on The Today Show to comment of the room.  She hoped that it would bring attention to the design industry which has still not fully recovered and also to all the American companies whose products were used in the space.  Every president has redecorated the Oval Office to suit their needs and style.  How would you like it if you started a new job and had to live with the office decor of the person before you?  I don't think it would be very fun.  Since we spend at least 40 hours working in our office and probably more, why would you not want it to be the most inspiring place?  I'm fascinated by the office of creative people and have included many of them here.  I'm still looking for Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta!  I bet theirs are beyond chic! Enjoy!

Working Girl

I got caught up with work so I didn't get a chance to write the post that I had originally scheduled for today. Please forgive me and enjoy these photos of this chic working girl that originally appeared in Vogue. I wish I looked this good during the day!
